Who can file a consumer court complaint?
Any person who has purchased goods or hired services for personal use and has suffered a deficiency, defect, or unfair trade practice can file a complaint under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
What is the time limit to file?
You must file within 2 years from the date the cause of action arises (when the defect was discovered or the service deficiency occurred). The commission can condone delays if you have a valid reason.
How much compensation can I claim?
District Forums handle claims up to ₹1 crore. State Commissions handle ₹1 crore to ₹10 crore. The National Commission handles claims above ₹10 crore. You can claim the cost of the product/service plus compensation for mental agony and litigation costs.
Do I need a lawyer?
